August 2014 Homegrown Collective Subscription Box

I’ve been a little under the weather the past week since returning from Atlanta. I’m blaming it on the fact that I never touch stuff on the airplane because of germs but went ahead and read the inflight magazines this time anyway. I’m working on a post or two talking about my Atlanta trip, but in the meantime, I have a few other posts that deserve their time to shine.

I recently purchased a monthly subscription to the Homegrown Collective – you receive a box every month that promotes a more self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle. My first box was waiting for me like a little “Welcome Home” gift when I returned from Atlanta.

The theme of this months box was "The Beauty of Coconut Oil Part Two" - I believe that part one came out last year.

The box includes everything you need to create three themed projects - coconut deodorant, coconut toothpaste, and coconut chapstick.

It didn’t take long for me to decide on which project I would attempt first. The toothpaste. The lip balm is the one that I am most excited about but that is more of a weekend project to me, not a quickly-rush-through-it-because-I’m-tired-after-work project. It took maybe 5 minutes max for me to complete the toothpaste project.

The toothpaste was my first project. I didn't add any sweetener like the directions suggested, but I may still do so. The toothpaste has a... taste that you need to get used to. But my teeth feel much cleaner after trying it.

I have to say, I absolutely adore the box, but $39 (+ $9 shipping) a month may be a little too pricey for my budget. I’m going to give it another month or two, just to see how much use I get out of the boxes before I decided if I’m going to cancel or not.
